On the 1th of may 2014 Linköping university welcomed John Bergenäs to Security Link as an expert and strategic advisor. He will manage the operational part of the pilot project Ngulia, coordinating international organizations, Kenyan authorities and Swedish parties. He will also be an asset for security political issues and internationalization aspects on the emerging markets in the development countries.
Johan Bergenäs is currently Deputy Director of the Managing Across Boundaries Initiative at the Stimson Center, Washington DC. Bergenas is an authority on transnational challenges, specifically the nexus between security and development, illicit networks, security capacity building, development, terrorism and private sector engagement.
Prior to joining Stimson, Bergenäs worked for the Monterey Institute of International Studies and for Oxfam America. Bergenäs has also been a reporter and a freelance journalist for numerous U.S. and European-based publications. Bergenäs has authored numerous monographs, reports, and research papers and has published in such outlets as the New York Times, Washington Post, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Politico, and the Guardian. He holds an honors M.A. degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and an honors B.A. degree from the University of Iowa.
