IT-attack against nuclear power plant-simulated exercise performed at FOI in Linköping
Illegal IT intrusions have in recent years become an increasingly common problem for Swedish companies, authorities and organizations. The IT systems must be resilient and the rising costs for this line of defense can no longer be ignored. Recently, FOI-the Swedish Defense Research Agency, organized a simulated exercise around a scenario where a Swedish nuclear power plant was under a hacker attack.
According to David Lindahl at FOI, who is an expert on cyber attacks, many Swedish organizations do not surveil their own networks, and hackers have been known to be in systems for months before detection. There is a need to improve the design of the IT systems so that security is taken into account already in the early stages during systems development.
